Onyinyechi (Onyi) Eke, MD
Dr. Onyinyechi Eke, MD, MPH, is an Emergency Physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and Instructor in Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She serves as Director of Global Ultrasound within the Division of Emergency Ultrasound at MGH, where she leads innovative initiatives to expand the use of point of care ultrasound (POCUS) for education and clinical practice. Her work bridges medicine, technology, and equity, focusing on improving access to diagnostic imaging and training in resource limited settings.
An internationally recognized educator and thought leader in POCUS, Dr. Eke has developed and delivered training programs across Africa, Asia, and the Americas. She spearheaded MGH’s first global virtual ultrasound course engaging over 800 clinicians from 16 countries and has led the implementation of a tele ultrasound consult service to enhance real time clinical decision making. Her research focuses on tele ultrasound feasibility and its impact on patient care and clinician training, supported by awards from the MGH Center for Diversity and Inclusion and the NIH Loan Repayment Program.
A committed advocate for diversity and equity in medicine, Dr. Eke has contributed to state level policy reform through the Massachusetts Crisis Standards of Care revision and served on the Harvard Medical School Anti Racism Task Force. Her work and mentorship have been recognized through multiple honors, including the Early Educator Award from the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, MGH Global Health Service Award and the Lancet Best Article Award. Driven by a mission to democratize access to high quality healthcare, she continues to advance global collaborations that empower clinicians and strengthen health systems worldwide.
