Natalie Artzi, PhD
Dr. Natalie Artzi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Engineering in Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. She also serves as a Principal Research Scientist at MIT and an Associate Member of the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT. Trained as a biomedical engineer, Dr. Artzi completed her postdoctoral studies at MIT, where she pioneered work on tissue–biomaterial interactions and the design of smart biomaterials for therapeutic and diagnostic applications.
A trailblazer in translational biomaterials research, Dr. Artzi leads multidisciplinary teams that integrate science, engineering, and medicine to design personalized materials that advance human health. Her lab develops biologically informed material platforms that can sense and respond to their environment, promote tissue repair, and deliver precision therapies. Her innovations have led to the creation of BioDevek, a startup developing next-generation biomaterials to improve outcomes following internal surgeries.
Recognized internationally for her contributions, Dr. Artzi has received numerous prestigious awards, including the inaugural Kabiller Rising Star Award in Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine, the One Brave Idea Award from Google Verily, the American Heart Association and AstraZeneca, the Stepping Strong Innovator and Breakthrough Awards, and the Controlled Release Society Young Investigator Award. Driven by a passion to translate technology from bench to bedside, she continues to redefine the frontiers of biomaterials science and its impact on patient care.
