Biography

Dr. Fabrisia Ambrosio an internationally recognized thought leader and researcher in the field of fundamental and applied biophysics. She has extensive research experience in quantum biology, stem cell biology, and aging. Her research experience is coupled with programmatic experience that spans education and training to global expansion efforts of clinical programs.

Since starting her role as a faculty member in the School of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Ambrosio’s career has been defined by transcending disciplinary and cultural boundaries to create innovative research and clinical paradigms.

Dr. Ambrosio has been credited with starting a new field, Regenerative Rehabilitation, which represents the fusion of technologies and approaches across the domains of regenerative medicine and rehabilitative medicine with the goal of optimizing functional outcomes for people with disabilities. Her first leadership role was Director of Rehabilitation for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) International Division. In this role, reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of UPMC, Dr. Ambrosio was responsible for designing and launching novel clinical care programs, with an emphasis on preventative medicine clinics throughout Italy.

Currently, Dr. Ambrosio serves as the Director of the Discover Center for Musculoskeletal Recovery at the Schoen Adams Research Institute, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. The mission of the Discovery Center for Musculoskeletal Recovery is to maximize functional outcomes for patients living with musculoskeletal injury. Towards this mission, Dr. Ambrosio applies her experience spanning atomic to clinical research to cultivate a multi-disciplinary team of investigators committed to accelerating scientific discoveries and intensifying the pace of translational studies so that next generation therapeutics more rapidly become available to our patients. In this role, Dr. Ambrosio reports directly to the President of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.
