Heather O’Sullivan, MSN, APRN, FAAN
Heather O’Sullivan is a health system operating executive whose experience spans private equity-backed, publicly traded, and nonprofit academic health system environments, including a governance seat held through an $8B acquisition. She joined Mass General Brigham as the inaugural leader of its Healthcare at Home division, now serving as President and Chief Operating Officer with a $250M+ P&L and a team of more than 2,000 across Home Hospital, Home Care and Home-Based Palliative Care. In that role, she consolidated two separate campus-based hospital-at-home programs into a single operation, reducing cost per inpatient bed day more than $1,300 below traditional inpatient care, with a Net Promoter Score of 86 and lower mortality and readmission rates than facility-based care. She has also engaged in federal regulatory advocacy to preserve the CMS waiver that allows the program to operate and bill as hospital-level care; it was subsequently extended nationally through 2030. Across the full portfolio, she has driven staff retention to 89% in a home-based clinical workforce.
Earlier in her career, she served as SVP of Enterprise Clinical Operations at Cardinal Health before being named Chief Clinical Officer of naviHealth following its 2015 acquisition by Cardinal Health. As EVP and Chief Clinical Innovation Officer at Kindred at Home, she held a governance seat at the joint venture board consortium table through Humana’s acquisition of the company. She was named a Modern Healthcare Top 25 Innovator, holds a professor appointment at the MGB University of Health Professions School of Nursing, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. She serves on the board of trustees at Nantucket Cottage Hospital and the Continuing Care Council of the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association.
